Messiah Concert Bray

About us

Bray Choral Society is a community choir attracting singers from a wide area ranging from South County Dublin to North County Wexford. Although not aspiring to be a competition choir, we keep our skills honed by participating in at least one festival a year and have achieved success in Cork, Sligo, New Ross, Navan, Arklow and Llandudno in Wales.

Composers featured in recent years include Handel, Fauré, Puccini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Verdi, Beethoven, Rutter, Bach, Vaughan Williams, and Poulenc. Apart from our own productions, we have participated in special events such as a concert performance of Verdi's Aida (recorded by Naxos) and several Barra O'Touma Gala Opera Evenings at the N.C.H.

Success has been achieved through the fine musicality and the professional approach adopted by our founder and Musical Director Frank Kelly, assisted by Accompanist Cormuin Ó Raghallaígh. For our concert performances, we employ the service of professional orchestras and soloists. In spite of the considerable size of the choir (over 100 singers), we provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with a strong emphasis on singing ability rather than on being able to read music. The Bray Choral Society enjoys strong support from the local business community and Bray and District Chamber of Commerce have presented us with the "Endeavour Award for Culture" twice, in 1991 and again in 2001.
